What To Expect
Led by Debra Stefan, the 2020 National Educator of the Year for the League of American Bicyclists, this on-bike class is tailored for returning riders looking to sharpen their skills and confidence. Before rolling out, your session covers essential preparation—including personalized bike fitting, helmet distribution, and equipment checks—while you arrive equipped with high-visibility clothing, sunscreen, and eye protection (complimentary bottled water is provided, and loaner bikes with helmets are available upon request). You will start safely away from traffic on smooth asphalt paths to run through standard "ABC" checks (Air, Brakes, Chain) and practice starting, stopping, and mounting with precision. From there, you’ll progress onto active roads and trails to master essential real-world handling: scanning behind you, executing controlled hand signals, counter steering for emergency turns, hazard avoidance maneuvers, passing etiquette, and the rules of the road. Ride distance and route selection are fully customizable, scaling to your comfort level once you've demonstrated steady mastery of the bike.
