What To Expect
An on-bike class with pre-ride instruction for those who have ridden before. First, the pre-ride checklist:
Biking Equipment
• Please indicate if you need to borrow a bicycle and receive a free helmet.
• Bike fitting (host-provided or other)
Please consider the following:
• Wear visibility clothing
• Wear a helmet (or I will provide one)
• What to bring: sunscreen, eye protection
• Bottled water is provided
First, the on-bike preliminary begins on asphalt bike paths away from vehicular traffic: and includes:
• Checking ABC Air, Brakes, Chain
• Getting on and off the bike
• Starting and stopping with control
Next, the on-bike road and trail biking include:
• Scanning behind you
• Hand signals with steering control
• Hazard avoidance maneuvers
• Countersteering for a quick turn
• Quick stop
• How to pass a bicycle or pedestrian
• Best Practices (synopsis)
• Rules of the road or trail (synopsis)
Q. How far is the bike ride?
A. Once you show mastery and confidence in handling yourself on the bicycle, the best route is optional, depending on your skill.
